The Secret of Kells Essay

Brendan's uncle was very worried about brendan's safety and the inevitable attack on his city by the vikings. His uncle was very obsessed with finishing his wall before the attack came. He knew that an attack was coming and wanted the wall to be finished so the town would be safe.
Brendan disobeyed his uncle so he could help Aiden with the book because the book was important to both of them. Also Aiden could no longer write because of his age so he needed Brendan’s help to finish it. The book was so important because it was said to be the most important book ever created and it would bring light into darkness.
To bring light into darkness means that the book could make people understand a things that they had never understood before. The people before they read the book they didn’t understand the world outside their city, they were in the dark, but after reading the book they knew more about life, thus they were lead into the light.

The people in the animation were very simply drawn but there were also many detailed drawing in the drawing in the book. I don’t remember ever watching other movies or shows with this type of animation. Overall I like this style of animation.

The Secret of Kells Essay Alexandru Munteanu

Brendan's uncle was very protective of Brendan. He was afraid of Brandon going outside the walls and being harmed. He knew that there was going to be an attack by the viking and if Brendan went outside he could be caught by them. As long as he could keep Brandon inside the walls, Brandon would be safe. He had to make sure that the wall would be finished quickly in order to make sure that the village would be safe.
Brendan helped Aidan with the book because he wanted to know more about what was beyond the walls that were protecting him.The book was also the only book they had. Brendan had never seen a book or ink before and getting a chance to write was a new opportunity he had never gotten before.
The book brings light into darkness when people see its pictures. In the lives of the people living inside the walls they is only darkness as they are always afraid of being attacked by the vikings. When they see the book they get a chance to see the the good side of the outside world.
Throughout the entire movie there is staging used in the background such as the trees in the forest and the walls surrounding the village. Exaggeration seems to be used in some of the characters as they may seem too short or too tall. The entire animation seems to be made up of images layered on top of each other in order to create a more 3D look.

The Secret of Kells

The Secret of Kells (2009), an Oscar-nominated hand-drawn animation about a boy living in medieval Ireland who must complete a magic manuscript.

Watch the film and answer these questions in a summative 200 word essay:

• What was Brendan’s uncle like? What were his main concerns?

• Brendan repeatedly disobeyed his uncle so he could help Aidan with the book. Why did he do this? Why was the book so important?

• The book is meant to bring light into darkness, what do you think that means?

• What did you think of the style of animation? Try to think of an example where you have seen this type of animation before.

if you miss any part of the film, it is available on Netflix free streaming.

Balloon Animation

The first project we did in animation was a bouncing ball. It uses the technique of squash and stretch when it is hitting and bouncing off the ground. I had 33 frames drawn on tracing paper.

ugly ball

this is a gross animation I had to make
it's only twenty frames and displays squash and stretch I'm so talented

in this project we made a simple animation. we took thin pieces of paper and drew a outline. after that we drew frames to represent different parts of the balls travel..

Cole's Bouncing Ball

In this project we drew a bouncing ball across the page. I used squash and stretch to make it seem more realistic when the ball hit the ground and sprung into the air. I had 27 pieces of paper to make my Bouncing Ball animation.

Devin's ball

This project shows the squash and stretch effect of animation. The way this worked was to draw multiple frames on tracing paper and take still images of each frame, then they linked together to make a short video.
